Murano 10mm Pink Stud Earrings - Stunning!
Range: Millefiori Hand made in Italy. Millefiori (thousands of flowers) is a type of cylindrical glass rod, which contains a specific pattern along its entire length so that when it is cut from one end, the particular pattern is revealed. Each slice or piece of the rod is called murrine (named after the well-known murrine pendant) The making of these rods begins at the end of 1.5 metre metal pole of molten glass. By dipping this pole into different pots of molten glass of various colours the volume increases and results in layers of different coloured glass. The enlarged mass of molten glass is sqeezed into a mould which gives the final form of the pattern. A last layer of glass will be added to maintain the cylindrical shape of the rod. A second pole is added and then two glass-makers pull the glass in opposite directions. When the rod is cooled it can be sliced into desired thicknesses, resulting in the production of murrines. These individual pieces are then laid into a mould and mellted. The most outer layer of eaach murrine will melt into each other. Once cooled it can be removed from the mould and be incorporated into making the various Millefiori jewellery items.
